Our Commitment

Cavemen Landscapes is committed to ensuring that our website and digital services are accessible to all users, including persons with disabilities. We strive to provide an inclusive online experience that conforms to the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA), the Accessible Canada Act (ACA), and the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 at the AA conformance level.

Standards and Compliance

Ontario -- AODA (Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act, 2005)

As an Ontario-based business, we comply with the Integrated Accessibility Standards Regulation (IASR) under the AODA. This includes meeting the requirements of the Information and Communications Standards, which mandate that websites and web content conform to WCAG 2.0 Level AA (with WCAG 2.1 as our target).

Federal -- Accessible Canada Act (ACA)

We support the goals of the Accessible Canada Act, which aims to create a barrier-free Canada by 2040. While the ACA primarily applies to federally regulated entities, we voluntarily adopt its principles to ensure the highest standard of accessibility for all users.

International -- WCAG 2.1 Level AA

Our website is designed and developed to conform to WCAG 2.1 Level AA, the internationally recognized standard for web accessibility published by the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C). This standard addresses accessibility for users with visual, auditory, motor, and cognitive disabilities.

Accessibility Features

Our website includes the following accessibility features:

Perceivable

  • Text Alternatives: All meaningful images include descriptive alt text. Decorative images are marked appropriately so screen readers can skip them.
  • Colour Contrast: Text and interactive elements meet or exceed WCAG 2.1 AA contrast ratios (minimum 4.5:1 for normal text, 3:1 for large text).
  • Responsive Design: Content reflows and remains accessible at up to 400% zoom without horizontal scrolling or loss of information.
  • Text Sizing: All text is set using relative units (rem/em) allowing users to resize text through browser settings.

Operable

  • Keyboard Navigation: All interactive elements (links, buttons, forms, menus) are operable via keyboard alone using Tab, Shift+Tab, Enter, Space, and Arrow keys.
  • Focus Indicators: Visible focus outlines are provided for all interactive elements to assist keyboard and switch device users.
  • Skip Navigation: A "Skip to main content" link is provided at the top of each page for keyboard users.
  • No Timing: Content does not have time-based interactions that could disadvantage users who need more time.
  • Motion and Animation: Animations respect the "prefers-reduced-motion" media query. Users with motion sensitivities can disable animations through their system settings.

Understandable

  • Language: The page language is declared in HTML (<html lang="en">) to assist screen readers with pronunciation.
  • Consistent Navigation: Navigation is consistent across all pages with predictable layout and behaviour.
  • Form Labels: All form fields include visible labels and associated <label> elements. Error messages are clear and descriptive.
  • Readable Content: Content is written in plain language at a reading level appropriate for a general audience.

Robust

  • Semantic HTML: Content uses proper semantic markup (headings, landmarks, lists, tables) for assistive technology compatibility.
  • ARIA Attributes: ARIA roles, states, and properties are used where appropriate to enhance accessibility of dynamic content and custom components.
  • Cross-Browser Compatibility: The Site is tested across major browsers (Chrome, Firefox, Safari, Edge) and screen readers (NVDA, VoiceOver, JAWS).

Assistive Technology Compatibility

Our website is designed to be compatible with:

  • Screen readers (NVDA, JAWS, VoiceOver, TalkBack)
  • Screen magnification software (ZoomText, built-in browser zoom)
  • Speech recognition software (Dragon NaturallySpeaking)
  • Switch access devices and alternative input methods
  • High contrast mode and custom colour schemes

Ongoing Efforts

We are committed to continuous improvement of accessibility through:

  • Regular automated and manual accessibility audits
  • Staff training on accessibility standards and best practices
  • Integration of accessibility testing into our development workflow
  • Monitoring and responding to user feedback about accessibility barriers
  • Annual review and update of our accessibility policies and practices

Multi-Year Accessibility Plan

In compliance with the AODA, Cavemen Landscapes maintains a multi-year accessibility plan that outlines our strategy for preventing and removing barriers to accessibility. This plan is reviewed and updated at least once every five years. Key areas of focus include:

  • Digital accessibility (website and email communications)
  • Customer service accessibility (accommodating clients with disabilities during consultations and on-site visits)
  • Employment practices (inclusive hiring and workplace accommodations)
  • Information and communication (accessible formats and communication supports on request)

Accessible Formats and Communication Supports

Upon request, we will provide information and communications in accessible formats or with communication supports. This includes but is not limited to:

  • Large print documents
  • Electronic documents in accessible PDF or HTML format
  • Verbal communication and telephone support
  • Extended time for reviewing proposals and contracts

Known Limitations

While we strive for full conformance, certain third-party content may present accessibility challenges:

  • Calendly Embed: Our scheduling tool is provided by Calendly. While Calendly maintains its own accessibility compliance, we cannot fully control its embedded interface. Alternative scheduling by phone is always available.
  • Google Maps: Embedded maps may have limited accessibility. Full address and directions are provided in text form as an alternative.
  • Social Media: Links to external social media platforms are subject to those platforms' accessibility standards.

Feedback and Barrier Reporting

We welcome feedback about the accessibility of our website and services. If you encounter an accessibility barrier, experience difficulty using any feature, or have suggestions for improvement, please contact us:

Accessibility Feedback

We will acknowledge all accessibility feedback within 2 business days and work to resolve reported barriers as quickly as possible. If you are not satisfied with our response, you may file a complaint with the Ontario Ministry for Seniors and Accessibility or the Accessibility Standards Canada.
